Since I was about two years old, when I painted my first “real” painting I have known that I wanted to be an artist.  Throughout grade school, I always excelled in art and found it to be easy and fun.  I spent my time at home drawing while my Latvian grandmother read Latvian novels to me, so that I would retain what Latvian language I had.  Once in high school, I took all the art classes permitted, and found a wonderful mentor in my graphic design teacher, Stephan Kelly.  He inspired me, provided much needed guidance, and exposed me to many opportunities that opened up my art experience.  Though talented in art and with grades and many awards to support these assumptions, I was not confident enough to pursue a career in art, at least not from the start.  So when applying to colleges, I chose a major less intimidating, Media Studies.  Not being able to stay away from art, I started taking many classes in art and encountered many talented and inspirational professors, who themselves had studied with great artists and theorists.   I ended up graduating from college with honors (Cum Laude) with a degree; a BA in Media Studies and Fine art.  I was on track with an internship at a highly regarded graphic design firm in NYC when a job opportunity knocked on my door in a very different direction both geographically and professionally.  I moved from New York City to Maine where I abandoned my art for sport and recreation.

Years later, I returned to my art professionally, and started painting and drawing again and started participating in art shows throughout the northeast.  Then came requests for showing in various venues locally and regionally.  With an ebb and flow of opportunities, I left my recreation career and am now a full time mom of two wonderful girls and a part time artists and art instructor in Maine.

I never settled into one medium and continue to experiment in a variety. Though most of my recent works are in painted paper collage, pastel and mixed media, I also work in oil, watercolor, clay and color pencil. My work is always evolving and changing but what stays constant is my bold use of color.  My art has been described as full of joy, high energy, bold, and fun.
